Peacemaker TV series Review 2022
James Gunn created something truly special with Peacemaker, it's memorable and extremely funny but most importantly rich in its storytelling.
Peacemaker is DC and HBO Max's latest offering that expands the DC Extended Universe, that are spinning out of James Gunn's acclaimed The Suicide Squad. It stars John Cena as the titular Peacemaker or Christopher Smith if we're talking about his civilian identity. He is joined by his pet eagle, Danielle Brookes as Leota Adebayo, Freddie Stroma as Vigilante, Robert Patrick as Auggie Smith, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, Steve Agee as John Economos, Christopher Heyerdahl and many more in the series' talented cast. I liked everyone as they contributed so much to the show, from the chemistry and comedic timing but also the dramatic and action side of things. If I would name my two favorites, it would have to be Peacemaker and Vigilante as their chemistry went through the roof at times. Though I didn't expect Vigilante to be written like that as it isn't his comic book accurate but non the less I'm glad they did go down that route with him as it worked out perfectly.
Peacemaker is an extremely hilarious tv series and a damn good one. Comedy is a big part of the show, thanks to James Gunn's writing and John Cena's improv skills, each scene is extremely entertaining to watch. John Cena showed in The Suicide Squad how he can be a dramatic actor and he only adds to that in this performance as the tv series shows us the character's tragic backstory and Cena's performance is fitting and overall quite great, he's made for this role like Ryan Reynolds is Deadpool. The characters are all likeable, mostly because of how weird and extreme they are, James Gunn also wrote them flawed and human which helps a lot. The editing is excellent and the cinematography is quite good as well, the musical score too and especially the intro song and well the intro sequence, it was unexpected in a good way and you can say that to the entire show in how surprisingly great it is.
Picking up where The Suicide Squad left off, Peacemaker returns home after recovering from his encounter with Bloodsport - only to discover that his freedom comes at a price as he's forced to join the mysterious A. R. G. U. S. Black ops squad "Project Butterfly".
Whilst the show doesn't really take itself very seriously, Peacemaker is still a must watch and possibly one of the best shows of 2022. It's colorful and most importantly extremely fun, the drama is there with the actors nailing the more serious themes of the series, but it's also an unforgettable adventure with characters worth following. Peacemaker also made headlines for being one of the world's biggest shows, after five episodes. How James Gunn brought a character like Peacemaker and made such an incredible show, it shows how great a storyteller and director he is, full creativity is also a big reason and I'm glad Warner Bros is changing their ways and thank you HBO Max for confirming a second season. It will probably be bigger and the possibilities are endless.
